New Maryland Landlord-Tenant Law Effective October 1, 2023

Notice Requirements for Rent Increases

Pursuant to House Bill 151, effective October 1, 2023, a landlord must notify a tenant in writing before increasing the tenant’s rent as follows:

(1) or tenancies for a term of more than one month, at least 90 days in advance of the rent increase;
(2) for tenancies for a term of more than one week, but not more than one month, at least 60 days in advance of the rent increase; and
(3) for tenancies for a term of one week or less, at least seven days in advance of the rent increase.

This is a change in all jurisdictions as there were previously no specific requirements relating to notice of rent increases.
